The Usual Intro

Sylvester Stallone is an American actor internationally recognized for starring in the award-winning movies, Rocky and Rambo. His impressive muscular physique and fiery drive for success sets him apart from other actors. Stallone is also known for writing many of his classic hit films, including the renowned Rocky series.

Before the Spotlight

Michael Sylvester Gardenzio Stallone was born on July 6, 1946, in Manhattan, New York. He grew up with his younger brother, Frank Stallone, who has also debuted as an actor.

Stallone’s mother experienced some complications during his birth, because of which he was pulled out of the birth canal with forceps. An error in handling cut one of his facial nerves.

This injury is why the lower left side of Stallone’s face is paralyzed. He often has difficulty making facial expressions and speaking, due to which he was bullied during his childhood. The extreme bullying motivated Stallone to work out and build a muscular physique.

Stallone attended several schools in the USA and studied drama at the American College of Switzerland. He completed his degree in 1969 at the University of Miami.

The Journey to Success

Stallone started his professional career by acting in the softcore pornographic film “The Party at Kitty and Stud’s” in 1970. Stallone was distressed, homeless, and really needed money at the time. He received $200 for the gig and continued to hunt for minor roles until he landed his first lead role in “No Place to Hide.”

Stallone first saw mainstream popularity in 1976 with the release of the iconic boxing movie “Rocky.” He drew inspiration for the film from the Muhammad Ali vs. Chuck Wepner fight and produced a script for the movie in only three days.

The movie ended up being a big hit. It got nominated for ten Oscars at the 47th Academy Awards and won three of them. Five more sequels of “Rocky” were released in the next three decades, all of which were well-received and featured Stallone as the star.

In 1982, Stallone mixed things up by releasing the first part of Rambo movie series called “First Blood.” Four sequels followed – with the last movie in the series, “Rambo: Last Blood,” being released in 2019.

Stallone faced a rough patch in the middle of his career from 2000 to 2005. However, he soon made his way back into the limelight with releases in the Rocky and Rambo series.

Even though the bulk of Stallone’s popularity comes from his roles in these two prominent movies, he has appeared in countless other films. He even created a production studio, Balboa Productions, in 2018.

An often unnoticed factor that contributes to Stallone’s $400 million net worth is his impressive real estate portfolio. Recently, Stallone sold one of his properties in Beverly Hills to the famous singer Adele for $58 million.
